Speakers’ Bios

Anisio-ResemAnisio Resem is a cofounder and the current president of the Spiritist Society of San Diego in California. He has been active in the Spiritist movement for more than 20 years. He studied and collaborated at institutions like the Spiritist Federation of the State of Sao Paulo (FEESP) and the Allan Kardec Spiritist Center of Campinas, both in Brazil. He also has been deeply involved with the study and practice of Mediumship inside the Spiritist framework for more than 10 years. Mr. Resem has a degree in Electrical Engineering with specializations in Business Management and Software Engineering.

 

Bernadete_LealBernadete Leal, BA, MAED  – Bernadete was born and raised in Brazil and has been working with Spiritism for more than 18 years. She has been a Spiritist educator devoting her time to compiling materials, resources, and workshops to educate children, youth, parents, and educators in Spiritism in the United States. She studied Spiritist Philosophy at FEESP (Spiritist Federation of the State of Sao Paulo, Brazil). She is an Elementary School teacher in San Diego, CA and she is the coordinator of the Youth Program for the United States Spiritism Symposium. She is also a collaborator of Kardec Radio team and The Spiritist Magazine writing Spiritist articles about children and youth. Bernadete Leal is currently a board member of the Spiritist Society of San Diego.

Daniel_AssisDaniel T. Assisi, EdD, MPA, PMP, has been an active participant in the Spiritist movement in California for over 15 years and has spoken throughout the US and abroad. Passionate about education, Dr. Assisi works with public schools and education reform in California. Daniel holds a Doctorate degree in Education and a Masters in Public Administration with a Graduate Certificate in Public Policy from the University of Southern California and is also a credentialed Project Management Professional. Daniel is a member of the board of directors at Blossom Spiritist Society in Los Angeles, and lives in San Diego with his wife Nicole and son David.

 

Edward-Christie

Edward Christie is a native of New York and lives in Brooklyn with his wife and two children.  He is a classically trained pianist and received his degree in Music from Brooklyn College.  He has been a computer programmer for over 30 years and taught data processing for five years at the NYU School of Continuing Education.  Edward was introduced to Spiritism over 15 years ago and he has been studying ever since.  He has given lectures at various centers in New York and this has given him an opportunity to combine his love of learning and teaching.

 

Heather Bollech-FonsecaHeather Bollech-Fonseca is an active participant in the dissemination of Spiritism. Through writing, speaking, and translating, Heather works to raise awareness, among English speakers around the world, about the existence and meaning of spiritual life according to the teachings of Spiritism. She is the author of the book, “Changing Lives with Spiritism: Fresh Perspectives  for a New Humanity“, as well as co-founder of the Leon Denis Spiritist Group and co-founder and developer of the website ExploreSpiritism.com.  Born in upstate NY, Heather currently resides in South Florida where, professionally, she works in Project Management.

Jussara_Korngold

Jussara Korngold, BS, MBA. Jussara is the founder and president of the Spiritist Alliance for Books (SAB), a non-profit organization, which has the aim to promote and disseminate Spiritism, in English, as codified by Allan Kardec. Mrs. Korngold is also one of the founders and directors of the Spiritist Group of New York, located in Manhattan, New York City. She is a third generation Spiritist from Brazil. Mrs. Korngold is also a published author, and has been translating spiritist materials and books since 1993. Jussara Korngold is currently the vice president of the United States Spiritist Council, Executive Director of the TriState Spiritist Federation, and Executive Director of the International Spiritist Council. Mrs. Korngold is fluent in Portuguese, English, French and Spanish. Mrs. Korngold has been working as a volunteer in the office of Brazil Child Health in New York, since its opening in 2000, as its main executive. In 2010 Mrs. Korngold was appointed one of the 100 most influential Brazilians in New York due to her charitable work.

Julio_CarvalhoJulio Carvalho first encountered the Spiritist Doctrine when he was about 14 years old.  Since then, he has become an active participant in the United States Spiritist movement, has co-founded the Spiritist Center Divine Light in Newark, New Jersey which he coordinates with a group of friends and has become a prolific speaker, disseminating the Spiritist message not only in the Tri-State area but also in the Union County Jail where he works as a Mental Health Counselor.

 

Julio-PadovanJulio Padovan was born in Brazil and has been studying Spiritism since the age of 15. He holds Ph.D. degrees in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology from the School of Medicine of São Paulo/University of São Paulo, Brazil. He moved to the US at the invitation of Prof. Brian Chait to work at the Laboratory for Mass Spectrometry and Gaseous Ion Chemistry at The Rockefeller University in New York, where he currently holds the positions of Senior Research Associate and Associate Director. Julio is responsible for translations of spiritist books from Brazilian Portuguese and French into English. He is a member of the Spiritist Group of New York (SGNY) where he is responsible for the Sunday Study Group; he is also a Chemistry professor at the City University of New York and a lecturer for Spiritism and the general sciences.

Luiz_LimaLuiz Lima was born in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. In 1990, Luiz moved to the United States, where later he came in contact with Spiritism. He has been lecturing on Spiritism in both Portuguese and English for several years and is a member of the Kardec Spirit Renovation Spiritist Center, in Coconut Creek, Florida. Luiz holds a Bachelor’s degree in Engineering and currently works in the computer network industry.

 

Mauricio_Cisneiro

Mauricio Cisneiros was born in 1969 in Niterói, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, and was raised in Brasília, where he was educated in Spiritism at the Spiritist Group Brother Stephen. He moved to the United States in 1988 and with a few friends founded in 1992 the Spiritist Society of Palm Beach, in which he is still a member of. Mauricio was also the Vice President of the Spiritist Federation of Florida and is currently the President of the United States Spiritist Council. Throughout his life, as a contributor in the U.S. Spiritist Movement he has helped in the English translation and revision of many works from books such as “Mediumship All You Need to Know” and “Diary of a Drug Addict” to shorter translations of articles, inspirational messages and websites. Professionally Mauricio has been working as a telecommunications’ technical specialist for the past 17 years.

Peter_HaysPeter Hays is a very active member at the Spiritist Group Love and Light in Newark, New Jersey where he is on the teaching staff for the Education Department. He has done lectures on the Doctrine in Miami, Atlanta, the tri-state area, and the weekly Live Web Study Meetings via the United States Spiritist Council.   Recently, he was involved with the editing staff on the new edition of The Spirits’ Book that is being published by the U.S. Spiritist Council. He has also helped to edit the very first publication by the Spiritist Group Love and Light, the English edition of Diary of a Counselor by Luiz Gonzaga Pinheiro, plus a second book, A Shipwrecked Life, written in English by the American spirit, Hercules, and channeled by the American medium, Jennifer Arlotta.

Robert_BlakelyRobert Blakely who has a B.A. in English Literature, has been a Spiritist since 1992. He has been involved in a number of activities at Spiritist centers, such as teaching young people aged 12 to 18, giving speeches, and engaging in English revision work on Spiritist literature translated from Portuguese into English and, more recently, from French into English. Mr. Blakely lives in Coconut Creek, Florida, with his wife, Angelica, and their two children.

 

Sonia_DoiSonia Doi is a member of the Allan Kardec Spiritist Society of Maryland since its foundation and is currently serving as President of this organization. She is also one of the founders and current President of the U.S. Spiritist Medical Association. Professionally, she is an MD, PhD, occupying a position of Associate Professor of Medicine at the Uniformed Services University, in Bethesda, Maryland.
