Adrian Alvarez, Esq., is Practitioner-in-Residence with the Disability Rights Law Clinic at American University Washington College of Law. He was previously a senior attorney with the Children’s Law Center in Washington, DC where he oversaw a caseload of 30-plus patient families through CLC’s medical-legal partnership in the areas of special education law, housing conditions law, public benefits, and access to healthcare. Prior to working at CLC, Adrián was a law clerk to a Senior U.S. District Judge in El Paso, Texas, a humanitarian aid worker in Sri Lanka and Sierra Leone, and a researcher for a human rights organization in Brazil. He is a fourth generation Spiritist and Secretary of the Allan Kardec Spiritist Society of Maryland.
Alba Nydia Morales, M.S., has a bachelor degree in Psychology and Pedagogy from Universidad Pedagogica Nacional and a Master degree in Education from Pontificia Universidad Javeriana, both institutions from Bogotá- Colombia. She has been working in education for more than 27 years and has been involved with different age-groups working with workshops, classes, conferences, etc. Currently, she works as a Bilingual Outreach Family and Community Facilitator for Anne Arundel County Public Schools in Maryland and as an adjunct faculty for Anne Arundel Community College. Ms. Morales is an active member of the Spiritist Society of Baltimore since 2006 and has been coordinating their Children and Youth Spiritist Education Program for the past 6 years.
Bernadete Leal, BA, MAED, was born and raised in Brazil and has been working with Spiritism for more than 20 years. She has been a Spiritist educator devoting her time to compiling materials, resources, and workshops to educate children, youth, parents, and educators in Spiritism in the United States. She studied Spiritist Philosophy at FEESP (Spiritist Federation of the State of Sao Paulo, Brazil). She is an Elementary School teacher in San Diego, CA and provides support to the Youth Program for the United States Spiritism Symposium. She is also a collaborator of Kardec Radio team. Bernadete Leal is currently a board member of the Spiritist Society of San Diego.
Carol Correa-Smith, Ph.D., has been studying the spiritist philosophy for 24 years. She has been a practising medium since then. As a former member of the Spiritist Society of Philadelphia, she has volunteered to work with people with HIV and with wheelchair users with cerebral palsy and multiple sclerosis. She has also briefly worked as a clown for children in hospitals and she served meals to people who were temporarily living without a home. Currently, she is a member of the Spiritist Society of Virginia and the Spiritist Group of Washington, DC and she is co-host with her husband, Dr. Mark Smith, of the Kardec Radio for Kids programme. She also co-hosts, with Bia Lopes and Mark Smith, “Kardec Radio for Teens”. Carol Correa and Mark Smith are also part of a team of Spiritist educators at the Spiritist Society of Virginia. Carol Correa has given talks in English about overcoming bullying, bringing Jesus’ Gospel to the heart, the blessings of physical challenges, the core principles of Spiritism, and dealing with relationship dynamics in estranged child-parent relationships from a Spiritist perspective. She has a Doctorate in Education from the University of Delaware (USA) and she has been teaching English as a Second Language (ESL) to international students for 12 years. She has also taught Masters-level courses for teachers planning to work in the ESL field.
Daniel T. Assisi, Ed.D., MPA, PMP, has spoken on Spirituality and Spiritism throughout the US and abroad. A founding member of The Spiritist Institute, Daniel has also been an active participant in the Spiritist movement in California for over 15 years. Passionate about education, Dr. Assisi works with public schools and education reform in California and holds a Doctorate degree in Education and a Masters in Public Administration with a Graduate Certificate in Public Policy from the University of Southern California. Daniel lives in San Diego with his wife Nicole and son David.
Edward Christie has been involved with Spiritism for more than 20 years and is an active member of both SGNY and IESS. Edward is a classically trained pianist, has taught music in NYC schools as well as computer science courses at NYU. He enjoys learning and uses his love of teaching to share what he has learned with others.
Heather Bollech-Fonseca has been a student of Spiritism for many years. She shares her passion for its teachings and contributes to the Spiritist movement through through speaking, writing, and translating. Heather is a co-creator of the Explore Spiritism.com website and Facebook page. She is also the author of the book “Changing Lives with Spiritism” and a blogger at explorespiritism.blogspot.com.
Julio Carvalho first encountered the Spiritist Doctrine when he was about 14 years old. Since then, he has become an active participant in the United States Spiritist movement, has co-founded the Spiritist Center Divine Light in Newark, New Jersey which he coordinates with a group of friends and has become a prolific speaker, disseminating the Spiritist message not only in the Tri-State area but also in the Union County Jail where he works as a Mental Health Counselor.
Jussara Korngold, BS, MBA. Jussara is the founder and president of the Spiritist Alliance for Books (SAB), a non-profit organization, which has the aim to promote and disseminate Spiritism, in English, as codified by Allan Kardec. Mrs. Korngold is also one of the founders and president of the Spiritist Group of New York, located in Manhattan, New York City. She is a third generation Spiritist from Brazil, Mrs. Korngold is also a published author, and has been translating spiritist materials and books since 1993. Jussara Korngold is currently the President of the United States Spiritist Federation, Executive Director of the TriState Spiritist Federation, and Executive Director of the International Spiritist Federation. Mrs. Korngold is fluent in Portuguese, English, French and Spanish. Mrs. Korngold has been working as a volunteer in the office of Brazil Child Health in New York, since it’s opening in 2000, as its main executive. In 2010
Kirsten DeMelo, RN, is an active board member at the Spiritist Society of Baltimore. She was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania to Spiritist parents and was a part of the Spiritist Society of Philadelphia before moving to Maryland in 2011. She has participated in the Spiritist Medical Congress and multiple Spiritist symposiums here in the USA. Professionally she is a Registered Nurse with experience in critical care and case management.
Ligia Carvalho was born in a Spiritist family which prepared her for the Spiritist work that she would choose to become involved with as an adult. Today, she is the Secretary for the Spiritist Center Divine Light in Newark-NJ which she co-founded and coordinates with a group of friends. She is also the coordinator of the Spiritist Education Department, the bookstore and the ‘Know Thyself’ study group for that Spiritist center, as well as an active participant in the USA Spiritist movement as a speaker. Professionally, Ligia is a licensed therapist and has been working with children and adolescents with behavioral and mental health problems at a major psychiatric hospital for many years. However, her most relevant role is as wife and mother.
Luiz Lima was born and raised in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. In 1990, Luiz moved to the United States, where he began his journey in Spiritism. Due to his vast knowledge in science he became one of the most requested facilitators of Spiritism in both languages: Portuguese and English. Mr. Lima is a renowned lecturer in the Spiritist movement and participates in local and national seminars and events all year around. Mr. Lima holds a degree in Electronic Engineering and works in the computer network industry.
Mark Smith, Ph.D. is a member of the Spiritist Society of Virginia and the Spiritist Group of Washington, DC, where he helps to coordinate the youth programs. He is a regular contributor to Kardec Radio for Kids and Kardec Radio for Teens (with his wife Dr. Carol Correa-Smith). He has also been active in disseminating Spiritist works into English, helping with translations of many seminal works. He is active in working with the homeless community of Washington, DC. He has a Doctorate in Education from the University of Delaware and has worked in education research, teacher training, and English as a Second Language (ESL) programs.
Patrick Jennings is a native New Yorker, currently living in St. Petersburg, Florida. Pat was a co-founding member of the Spiritist Group of New York, as well as an initial member of their Rescue Work team. He is an active member of the Tampa Spiritist Society – Andre Luiz, in Tampa, where he leads study group activities in English, and all mediumship programs. Professionally, Pat is an Endurance Cycling Coach.
Peter Hays has been an active member of Spiritist Group Love and Light in Newark, New Jersey for several years. He has done lectures on the Doctrine in Atlanta, Miami, Newark, New York City, and the 9th Spiritist Symposium in Stamford, CT. Besides doing several episodes of Living Spring on Kardec radio, he was on the editing staff for The Spirits’ Book by the U.S. Spiritist Federation and helped with Love and Light’s English editions of Diary of a Counselor, Love Exists Among Us, and A Shipwrecked Life. Peter loves playing guitar and teaches kids and adults at Love and Light, plus he occasionally joins members of New York City’s Caravan of Love group to visit nursing homes and veterans’ hospitals. He has a long background in theatre as a playwright, literary manager, and he has published several children’s books with his wife Beti Rozencwajg. Currently, Peter and his brother are involved in commercial real estate.
Sonia Doi is currently serving as President of the Allan Kardec Spiritist Society of Maryland, U.S. Spiritist Medical Association and the International Spiritist Medical Association. Professionally, MD, PhD., Adjunct Associate Professor of Medicine at the Uniformed Services University, and Member of the Board of Directors of the National University of Natural Medicine.
Vanessa Anseloni, PsyD, PhD is a neuroscientist and psychologist. She worked for 18 years as faculty at the University of Maryland. She founded the School of Emotion. Fifth generation Spiritist, Dr. Anseloni is the founder and former president (1998-2012) of the Spiritist Society of Baltimore. Anseloni also founded and is the president of the Spiritist Society of Virginia and the Spiritist Group of Washington, DC. Vanessa Anseloni is a Spiritist medium, fraternal counselor and coordinates spiritual treatments and workshops in the U.S. and worldwide. She is also the co-author of the book The New Generation with Divaldo Franco and the editor-in-chief of The Spiritist Magazine. Dr. Anseloni is the founder of Kardec Radio.
